Earth-Friendly Company!

To energize Tanzanians future, SESCOM is focusing on renewable energy and environmental friendly innovations that play a tremendous different in lives of people in rural and urban areas of Tanzania. These include installation of renewable energy mini-grids and isolated renewable and energy efficient systems for solar energy, wind energy, small hydro, biofuels and others, all performed through business interventions – both of them supported by sustainable energy technologies. The company responsibly provide the sustainable energy services that power and fuel households, institutions and commercial entities.

SESCOM has continued to implement rural electrification initiatives in order to contribute to the ongoing efforts of improving access to electricity for rural population in Tanzania.

A large number of households and people received electricity through mini-grids powered by Energy Services Platforms (ESPs) which are currently installed in fifteen villages in Arusha, Tanga, Manyara, Shinyanga and Rukwa Regions. the company is in the process of developing other mini-grids connected to solar, rice husk gasification, biogas, etc.

SESCOM has identified more than forty potential sites for small hydro electricity generation in Tanzania.

Out of 40 sites, one site has been developed. This site is located at Kinko village, Lushoto District in Tanga Region. The village was electrified by a 10KW micro-hydro plant. This was possible through a joint project implemented with UNIDO.

Another potential site is Zege, The site has been surveyed and feasibility study conducted for possible development of micro-hydro project.

The major biomass technologies promoted by SESCOM are biogas plants.  The biogas plants promoted by SESCOM include Vacvina, Fixed Dom Plant and Floating Tank types.   Biogas is produced by using anaerobic digesters. These plants can be fed with energy crops such as maize silage or biodegradable wastes including sewage, sludge and food waste.

Although liquid biofuel production is a new area of development in Tanzania but SESCOM promotes rural electrification in rural areas through Energy Service Platforms.
